Dictated Story Experience
This is one of the most common comprehension, retelling strategies. You simply have the student, reader, read something and retell the story back to you. You may write for the student by recording what he/she says in the retelling. Then, you can check to see how many ideas were recalled correctly from the story. If the student is older, you may have the student retell with writing while using some prompting graphic organizer (e.g., STORY MAP). A Beginning, Middle, and End (BME) strategy works here as well.
